Polish Speaker Rejects Trump Nobel Nomination, US Ambassador Responds

Polish Speaker of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty declined to support a Nobel Peace Prize nomination for US President Donald Trump, prompting a strong reaction from the US Ambassador in Poland.

Official Request for Trump Nobel

The Speakers of the US House of Representatives and Israeli Knesset sent an official request to heads of several European states to support a Peace Nobel Prize nomination for US President Donald Trump. Poland’s Speaker of the Sejm did not provide such support.

Czarzasty’s Response

In a written response, Czarzasty acknowledged “recognition for all the actions of the US President to limit armed conflicts and save human lives.” However, the document stated that “after a thorough analysis of the initiative and its accompanying arguments, the Marshal of the Sejm made the decision not to support this nomination.”

Decision and Explanation

On Monday, February 2, the Marshal of the Sejm announced his decision at a press conference, stating that “the world stands on the threshold of an epochal change.” Czarzasty emphasized that Russia is a “mortal enemy” while the West is an ally, and criticized Trump for destabilizing international organizations through “politics of force and transactional policy.”

US Ambassador’s Reaction

On Thursday, February 5, US Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose announced breaking all contacts with the Polish parliamentary speaker, stating that “we will no longer maintain contacts or communicate with Marshal of the Sejm Czarzasty, whose outrageous and unjustified insults against President Trump have become a serious obstacle to our excellent relations with Prime Minister Tusk and his government.”
