Pope Francis held his first canonization ceremony since his election when he announced the sainthood of Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati in a Vatican ceremony attended by thousands from around the world.

Carlo Acutis – First Millennial Saint

Carlo Acutis, dubbed the “Internet Eucharistic Catechist,” created websites showcasing Eucharistic miracles and saints. His Polish connections include his grandmother, Maria Henrietta Perłowska, who was the granddaughter of Polish nobleman and diplomat Jan Perłowski. Acutis learned to pray in Polish, and saw his metaphysical encounter with God as the ultimate purpose of life, commenting on superficiality in the 21st century.

Pier Giorgio Frassati – Compassionate Millennial

Pier Giorgio Frassati, a wealthy young man from Turin, lived a life dedicated to serving the poor despite his aristocratic upbringing. Using his physical prowess and social status to aid the needy, particularly during times of economic crisis, he regularly visited the sick and underserved carrying medical supplies, food, and books. He died at 24 from polio.
