Following the death of MP Łukasz Litewka, President Karol Nawrocki is considering attending his state funeral on April 29th in Sosnowiec.
Posthumous Distinction for MP Litewka
President Karol Nawrocki has posthumously awarded MP Łukasz Litewka the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, as announced by Presidential Spokesman Rafał Leśkiewicz on X.
The Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland is Poland’s second-highest state decoration for civilians, awarded for distinguished service to the state and society, including public activity beneficial to the country.
Presidential Attendance Under Consideration
The President’s participation in the funeral is being evaluated, according to Marcin Przydacz, Head of the International Policy Bureau. Any changes to the schedule or a final decision regarding the President’s attendance will be announced promptly.
Przydacz stated that while the President is scheduled to travel to Croatia on Monday, April 27th, for the Three Seas Summit, a decision regarding the funeral will be made. The visit to Croatia is scheduled to last until Wednesday.
Funeral Details Announced
The funeral of Łukasz Litewka will take place on Wednesday, April 29th, at 1:30 PM at the Church of St. Joachim in Sosnowiec. The Sejm Chancellery is organizing the state funeral, which will be officiated by Bishop Artur Ważny of Sosnowiec.
Following the mass, a funeral procession will proceed to the Parish Cemetery on Zuzanny Street in Sosnowiec.
MP Litewka’s Death and Legacy
Łukasz Litewka, 36, died on April 23rd after being struck by a car while cycling on Kazimierzowska Street in Dąbrowa Górnicza. He was known for his social and charitable work.
His foundation, #TeamLitewka, supported the treatment of children, animal welfare, and assistance to those in need, raising funds for rehabilitation equipment and support for accident victims.
