Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin may attend the December G20 summit in Miami.
Kremlin Announces Potential Putin Attendance
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov informed journalists on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin could participate in the December G20 summit in Miami, according to Reuters.
Peskov stated Russia will be appropriately represented at the G20 summit in Miami, noting that Putin or another representative may attend.
Trump’s Comments and Russia’s Importance of G20
This announcement follows a statement on Thursday by U.S. President Donald Trump, who said Putin’s presence at the G20 summit in Florida would be “very helpful,” but added, “I doubt it will happen.”
Peskov added that Russia places “great importance” on discussions within the G20 format.
Upcoming Summit Details
Considering the current and emerging crises, there will be many issues to discuss before the summit, Peskov noted.
The U.S. holds the G20 presidency this year. President Trump will host the summit on December 14-15 at Trump National Doral Miami in Florida. Polish President Karol Nawrocki is also expected to attend. (PAP)
