Prosecutors have filed charges against Daniel D. for robbing and attempting to rob elderly women in Warsaw’s Ochota district in March 2025.
Charges Filed After March 2025 Incidents
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw-Ochota has filed an indictment to court against Daniel D., accused of robbery and attempted robbery that occurred in Warsaw’s Ochota district in March 2025. According to Piotr Antoni Skiba, spokesman for the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect committed a robbery on March 27, 2025, using violence against an elderly woman whom he pushed into an elevator and pulled her purse, causing her to hit her head against a mirror inside.
Details of the Robbery and Attack
In the stolen purse were documents, a phone, 120 Polish zloty, and a bank card. The second incident occurred two days later, also on Ochota, when the suspect attacked an elderly woman entering her apartment, hitting her in the back, causing her to fall, and then striking her face, head, and chest. When the victim called for help, the perpetrator threatened: “Stop screaming or I’ll strangle you.”
The perpetrator attempted to take the purse with wallet contents, 170 Polish zloty, corrective glasses, keys, phone, and documents, but failed to achieve his intended goal. When the victim’s husband heard her cries, he entered the living room and saw an unknown man in a black balaclava immediately fleeing the apartment, leaving a cut-open purse with a torn strap on the floor.
DNA Evidence and Arrest
The prosecutor’s office stated that “On the secured purse, the perpetrator’s DNA – Daniel D.’s – was revealed through forensic examinations.” The arrest occurred on April 1, 2025, in the area of ul. Niemcewicza 26 in Warsaw, when police noticed a person entering a store matching the suspect’s description. The identified person was Daniel D., who turned out to be “wanted to serve a 5-year and 3-month prison sentence imposed by the Regional Court in Chrzanow.”
After the arrest, the suspect’s shoes were secured, and during a search of his residence, a jacket, sweatshirt, and cap were also seized, in which he was registered at the monitoring from the crime scene.
Suspect’s Background and Legal Status
Interrogated, Daniel D. did not admit to the alleged acts, refused to give explanations, but stated he had not been in Warsaw for 15 years, had visited his mother several times in recent months, and explained he did not remember what he was doing at the time of the crimes. The prosecutor’s office stated that Daniel D. is 37 years old, is a roofer, and has previously been repeatedly convicted of property crimes.
In this case, he will answer in multi-recidivist conditions, meaning for each alleged act, a prison sentence of 3 to 18 years may be imposed. A preventive measure of temporary detention is still applied against the suspect.
