Tension erupted Thursday during Poland’s Rules, Parliamentary Affairs and Immunity Committee meeting as chair Jarosław Urbaniak confronted MPs Anita Czerwińska and Joanna Borowiak over a motion lifting former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro’s immunity.
Regulatory Procedure Stalled
A memorandum was issued indicating that MPs Czerwińska and Borowiak had withdrawn a request under consideration and refused to acknowledge receipt, a procedural duty required by committee rules. Urbaniak demanded that they immediately confirm the receipt of the requests and recorded their refusal in the minutes.
Accusations From the Chair
Urbaniak warned the women that “their conduct is scandalous,” citing the failure to confirm the motion as an infringement on the official process and an obstruction to the work of the parliamentary secretariat. He asserted that the matter was held for procedural safety on the part of the office.
Allegations of Sensitive Data Disclosure
Czerwińska responded that “materials circulating in the hall contain sensitive data about Zbigniew Ziobro, including his address and PESEL number.” She called for the removal of the documents and the protection of personal data, emphasizing the need to safeguard privacy.
Committee’s Broader Case
The committee is also reviewing prosecutor’s requests concerning former Justice Minister Ziobro, seeking parliamentary agreement to waive his immunity and to authorize his arrest and detention.
