The Sejm’s Rules Committee has approved a request to lift former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro’s parliamentary immunity, setting the stage for almost thirty separate votes on the matter.
Committee Decision on Immunity
The committee decided to submit to parliament the proposal to accept the request from the head of investigative team No.2 of the National Prosecutor’s Office, dated October 28, 2025, to consent to criminal prosecution for all acts listed and to arrest and temporarily detain Ziobro. The decision was reached after a five‑hour session and announced by the chair.
Plenary Session and Voting Schedule
According to MP Jarosław Urbaniak, the Sejm will hold 26 separate votes to lift Ziobro’s immunity—one for each charge. A further vote will decide on approval of his arrest and temporary detention. The plenary review is set for Thursday, half‑an‑hour before midnight, with the vote scheduled for Friday afternoon.
Prosecution’s 26 Charges
Prosecutors plan to charge Ziobro with 26 offenses, including forming and leading an organized criminal group and defrauding money from the Justice Fund. The request will be considered during the upcoming plenary session.
Ziobro’s Absence and Statement
Ziobro announced he would take an active role in the proceedings by listening to the committee’s work, despite not attending the Sejm session. He is currently in Budapest.
Parliamentary Reactions
MP Mirosław Suchoń criticized Ziobro’s absence and suggested that the former minister might fear confronting the system that empowered him over eight years. MP from Polish 2050 called on Ziobro to return to Poland, defend his innocence before an independent court, and implied that non‑return would validate the charges.
