Russia comments on Trump’s claims to Greenland, citing his disregard for international law.
Russia Reacts to US Greenland Plans
According to RIA Novosti reports, Dmitry Peskov was asked by journalists on Friday, January 16, about the Kremlin’s stance on US claims to Greenland.
Peskov quoted Trump as saying international law is not a priority for him, noting the situation is developing differently and Russia, along with the rest of the world, will observe its trajectory. He recalled that Denmark and Greenland have assured the island will not be sold.
Zakharova: Neither Russia Nor China Have Such Plans
The day before, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the Greenland situation, calling it an example of “the inconsistency of the so-called rules-based world order that the West has built.”
Zakharova responded to Trump’s argument that the US wants to take over Greenland before Russia or China do, stating neither country has announced such plans. She criticized Western powers for first inventing aggressors and then offering protection from them.
Trump: “I Don’t Need International Law”
In early January, “New York Times” journalists asked Donald Trump if there are limitations to his global power.
The US president responded that only his “own morality” and “own mind” can stop him, stating he doesn’t need international law. However, he noted his administration must comply with it, and he will serve as an arbitrator in matters concerning the US.
