Russian forces attacked Zaporizhzhia with guided bombs and Kramatorsk with aerial bombs on Tuesday, resulting in at least 17 confirmed deaths and numerous injuries.
Zaporizhzhia and Kramatorsk Under Attack
Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that Russian forces carried out an attack using guided bombs. Initially, the target was reported as several enterprises in Zaporizhzhia, but later it was specified that residential buildings, a gas station, and a car wash were damaged.
By 6 PM local time, the death toll in Zaporizhzhia reached 12. Meanwhile, at least five people were killed and five wounded in a Russian attack on Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region, which occurred around 5 PM local time (4 PM Polish time). Russian forces dropped three aerial bombs on the city.
Ukraine Claims Millions in Russian Losses
On Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian long-range FP-5 Flamingo guided missiles struck facilities within the military-industrial complex in Cheboksary, in the European part of Russia.
The Ukrainian General Staff also reported that Russia has lost over $300 million as a result of recent strikes on an oil refinery and port in Tuapse, in the Krasnodar Krai. Kyiv claims Ukrainian drones attacked 14 Russian fuel sector facilities in April, including refineries and oil terminals.
Targets of Ukrainian Strikes
Ukrainian shelling targeted refineries in Ufa (Bashkiria), and Tuapse (Krasnodar Krai) – with three attacks on Tuapse occurring on April 16, 20, 28, and May 1 – as well as oil terminals in Primorsk and Ust-Luga (Leningrad Oblast) on the Baltic Sea, and Novorossiysk on the Black Sea.
Ukrainian forces also struck Russian tankers in the Black Sea (including with naval drones) and damaged two large landing ships and a frigate equipped with Kalibr cruise missile launchers in the port of Sevastopol.
Ceasefire Declarations and Continued Attacks
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a two-day ceasefire in the war with Ukraine, effective May 8th and 9th, coinciding with the anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.
Later that day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a ceasefire in the war with Russia from midnight Tuesday to Wednesday.
Despite these announcements, Russia attacked energy infrastructure facilities in the Poltava region of central Ukraine overnight from Monday to Tuesday. Attacks also impacted the Kharkiv region (northeast), where one person was killed and four injured, and the Dnipropetrovsk region (central-east), where three were injured and energy infrastructure was damaged. Three people were also injured in the Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv regions.
