Russian Port Ablaze After Ukrainian Drone Attack; One Dead

The attack occurred overnight between Sunday and Monday (April 19-20), with local authorities reporting at least one death and one injury. Krasnodar Krai Governor Vladimir Kondratiev reported a fire broke out at the port via Telegram.

Debris from the attack damaged a gas installation.

Damage to Civilian Infrastructure

The regional head added that windows were damaged in a primary school, museum, church, and kindergarten. Debris also impacted a gas installation.

Tuapse Port’s Role in Russian Oil Transport

Ukraine previously attacked the port of Tuapse in November of last year. According to British investigative outlet The Insider, citing satellite imagery, the port plays a key role in the operation of Russia’s shadow fleet. This fleet consists of outdated, uninsured tankers used by Russia to bypass international sanctions when transporting oil.

Russia Revives Aging Aircraft

Wacław Radziwinowicz reported on Wyborcza.pl that, due to a lack of aircraft, Russia is attempting to reactivate 700 old An-2 aircraft previously sent to scrap yards. Moscow has acknowledged that its plans to produce one thousand new passenger aircraft by 2030 have failed.

Ukrainian Strikes on Russian Refineries

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian forces attacked four major oil refineries in Russia overnight between Friday and Saturday. Fires broke out at facilities in Novokuybyshevsk and Syzran in the Samara region, at the Lukoil-2 RPK-Vysotsk oil terminal in the Leningrad region, and at pumping stations in Tikhoretsk in the Krasnodar Krai.

Daily Losses Estimated at $100 Million

According to Ukrainian military intelligence, the attacks on Russian oil infrastructure are causing daily losses of $100 million in Russia. Major Robert “Madiar” Browdi stated that a series of attacks on oil logistics facilities along the Primorsk-Ust-Luga-Sheskharis-Tuapse route have reduced the daily amount of oil transported by approximately 880,000 barrels.

Strategic Importance of Novokuybyshevsk Refinery

“The Novokuybyshevsk refinery is a strategic asset for the defense complex of the Russian Federation, providing a significant portion of the Russian army’s needs. The enterprise produces a wide range of products (over 20 items), and its annual processing capacity reaches 8.8 million tons,” the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces stated in a Saturday statement.
