Ryszard Petru Expected to Join Government as Deputy Minister

Ryszard Petru is reportedly set to assume a deputy minister position at the Ministry of Development next week, potentially joining the cabinet led by Finance Minister Andrzej Domański to influence economic policy.

Petru Seeks Concrete Influence

According to reports from RMF FM, the lawmaker from the Centrum club is slated for a role in the Ministry of Development. When asked about potential government positions last week, Petru confirmed that discussions were underway, stating that it is essential to utilize the existing potential of coalition members.

Petru, who currently chairs the Sejm’s Deregulation Committee, has emphasized that government roles are only meaningful if they provide the actual power to enact change. He maintains that he intends to have a real impact on policy decisions.

Expanding Centrum Representation

Should his appointment be finalized, Petru would be the latest representative from the Centrum club to join the government administration, following the appointment of Żaneta Cwalina-Śliwowska as Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism this past Monday.

The Centrum group was formed in February following the fragmentation of Poland 2050. Media reports from early May had already suggested that both Petru and Cwalina-Śliwowska were being considered for these specific government roles.

Economic Background

Petru is an economist and a former leader of the Nowoczesna party. He previously served as the chairman of the Society of Polish Economists and has held parliamentary seats during the 8th and 10th terms.

If confirmed, he will join a ministry responsible for key areas including economic policy, entrepreneurship, and regulations governing the development of the national economy.
