43-year-old man arrested for shooting at school building; claims he was aiming at pigeons.
Incident Reported
On Wednesday before 10:00 AM, a report came in about a school building on Marszałkowska Street being shot at. Police arrived within minutes and found that several shots from a pneumatic pistol had damaged glass elements of the building.
Suspect Apprehended
Police from the Wilcza Street station identified and arrested the suspect several hours after the incident. The 43-year-old man faces charges of endangering human life and property damage. He has a history of similar offenses.
Evidence Found
During a search of the suspect’s apartment on Gagarina Street, police found and secured a pneumatic pistol and metal pellets that could have been used in the shooting. The investigation was conducted in cooperation with officers from the Warsaw Metropolitan Police.
Alleged Motive
During interrogation, the suspect explained his actions by claiming an argument with his wife. He stated that he was returning from work when he noticed pigeons pulling trash from bins on Marszałkowska Street. He shot at them without realizing he was hitting the school building.
Legal Proceedings
The suspect’s actions were also classified as hooliganism. Police gathered evidence and handed it over to the prosecutor’s office, which requested a preventive measure of temporary detention for the 43-year-old. He faces up to 8 years in prison. The case is supervised by the Warsaw Śródmieście District Prosecutor’s Office.
