Sejm Backs Climate Denial Conference: “The Cold Kills, Not the Heat”

A climate change denial conference was held in the Polish Sejm under the patronage of Vice-Marshal Krzysztof Bosak.

Scientist Claims Funding Corruption Stifles Research

Dr. Mariusz Błochowiak, president of the Ordo Medicus foundation, opened the over-five-hour conference. He argued that scientists are incentivized to pursue politically funded projects, not independent research, citing his experience in Norway and Germany.

Błochowiak claimed that the scientific consensus on human-induced climate change is largely driven by scientists whose funding depends on adhering to mainstream views. He proposed that part of university funding should be constitutionally guaranteed to ensure academic independence.

Geologist Argues “Cold Kills, Not Heat”

Dr. Stefan Uhlig, a geologist and author of “Climate Fraud,” presented arguments that climate change is natural. He referenced historical climate events and used the slogan “The cold kills, not the heat,” pointing to higher winter mortality rates.

Uhlig presented claims as evidence, including a record low temperature of -41.2°C in Poland in 2023 and the assertion that the polar bear population has tripled. He also claimed that oceans absorb vast amounts of CO2 and releasing it back into the atmosphere is simply returning it to nature.

Speakers Question Scientific Consensus

Dr. inż. Tadeusz Wójcik, a chemist and former MP, stated that there is no consensus in natural sciences, only truth or falsehood. He challenged the concept of a “global temperature,” arguing it is an average that does not reflect real-world variations.

Another speaker, Dr. inż. Jan Kubicki, a physicist, presented his theory on the “saturation of the greenhouse effect by CO2.” His work was previously recognized with third place in the “Climate Nonsense of the Year” contest, an award he contested as lacking substantive arguments.

Physicist Debates Greenhouse Effect “Saturation”

Kubicki’s argument on the “saturation of the greenhouse effect” was based on a discredited theory from the early 20th century. He complained that his work was ridiculed and later retracted by a scientific journal, which identified procedural flaws in the review process.

During a discussion, Kubicki claimed that only financially independent or retired scientists can afford to publicly challenge the official narrative on climate change.

Event Framed as “Expression of Free Speech” in Parliament

The conference, which received the patronage of Sejm Vice-Marshal Krzysztof Bosak, was defended by a Sejm spokesman as an “expression of freedom of speech.” The spokesman stated the Sejm provides only technical support for various events organized by its members.
