U.S. Senators Condemn Russia’s Brutal Attacks

U.S. senators released a statement on Thursday condemning what they described as “brutal crimes” by Russians, naming cities: Kherson, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Donetsk, and Kryvyi Rih. They cited attacks on innocent Ukrainians who had gathered to celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace with loved ones and in prayer.

Calls for Ceasefire Ignored by Putin

Senators noted that President Zelensky had agreed to a ceasefire during Christmas, but Putin rejected the proposal. Still, he ordered soldiers to continue committing brutal acts of aggression on one of Christianity’s holiest days.

Senators Sign Statement

Nine senators—four Democrats and five Republicans, including Jeanne Shaheen, Thom Tillis, Jacky Rosen, John Barrasso, Chris Coons, Angus King, Jerry Moran, Jeff Merkley, and Chris Van Hollen—signed the statement, stressing that even war‑torn nations have a long history of suspending hostilities during Christmas, especially in World War I.

Continued Russian Attacks During Christmas

Despite the holiday, Russian forces continued to shell Ukrainian cities. On Wednesday, Kharkiv was shelled for several hours; a residential building in Chernihiv saw one fatality and nine injured. Overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, shelling reached Odesa, and attacks continued into Thursday night.

Electrical Blackouts in Ukraine

Ukrainian Energy Ministry reported on Friday that the enemy struck power plants and transmission networks in several regions. As a result, residents in Donetsk, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Kharkiv had no electricity in the morning.
