Simpsons Writer Who Predicted Trump Presidency Announces His Own Run

Dan Greaney, the screenwriter behind the 2000 episode of The Simpsons that foretold a Trump presidency, has officially filed to run in the upcoming Republican presidential primary.

The Self-Styled Prophet

In a video posted to Instagram, Dan Greaney labeled himself a “self-proclaimed prophet.” He argued that Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and various billionaires and career politicians have turned their backs on the United States.

Greaney, who is a lawyer by trade, emphasized that the American government must serve everyone. He stated that the country needs to restore democracy, accountability, and prosperity for all.

A Progressive Republican Bid

His campaign team has described the writer as a “progressive Republican” focused on goals such as universal healthcare access. Greaney has already submitted his formal application to run in the Republican primaries.

The Simpsons Connection

In the 2000 episode of The Simpsons titled “Bart To The Future,” written by Greaney, Lisa Simpson becomes president. In one scene, she tells her advisor that the administration inherited a significant budget crisis from President Trump.

Donald Trump was elected president sixteen years later, defeating Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. It remains a historical fact, however, that Trump’s political ambitions were known long before the episode; he considered running in the 1980s and conducted a brief preliminary campaign at the turn of the millennium.

The Road to 2028

The next U.S. presidential election will take place on November 7, 2028. President Donald Trump is ineligible for a third term and will leave office on January 20, 2029.

Potential candidates mentioned in early discussions include J.D. Vance, Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, Kamala Harris, and Gavin Newsom. Current polling indicates strong support for J.D. Vance among Republicans and Kamala Harris among Democrats, with primaries expected in the first half of 2028.
