On November 14, 2025, six municipalities along the Warsaw Śl. Railway signed a contract to develop a 22‑km bicycle path beside the WKD line from Grodzisk Mazowiecki to Warsaw’s outskirts.
Contract Signed by Six Municipalities
On 14 November 2025, six municipalities along the WKD line signed a contract at WKD headquarters to develop the concept for a 22‑km cycling route from Grodzisk Mazowiecki Radońska to Warsaw’s borders. The initiative seeks to improve safety and comfort for cyclists across western Masovia.
Route Extends Through Six Local Governments
The project will cover sections in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Milanówek, Brwinów, Podkowa Leśna, Pruszków, and Michałowice. Grodzisk Mazowiecki, the leading municipality, will coordinate preparation of documentation.
Planning a Cohesive 22‑km Path
The concept calls for a continuous asphalted bike and pedestrian corridor running parallel to the existing WKD tracks. Estimated lengths within each gmina sum to approximately 22 km, linking existing segments into a single route that reaches Warsaw’s limits.
Design Requirements and Connectivity
Designers must propose solutions for bike roads, pedestrian‑bike paths, drainage, lighting, and crossings over watercourses. The plan will also incorporate changes to traffic organization on selected streets and potential rebuilding of road sections, meeting WKD’s safety and operational requirements.
Implementation Timeline and Budget
Concept development costs 854,850 zł gross and is set to finish by end of June 2026. After cost confirmation, a technical‑design tender is scheduled for Q3‑Q4 2026, forming the base for the subsequent construction phase.
Community and Political Support
Officials highlighted the project’s regional benefits, with MP Piotr Kandyba praising the initiative and mayor Tomasz Krupski noting it meets residents’ needs and promotes healthy living. Statements from Grzegorz Benedykciński, Mayor Magdalena Eckhoff, Arkadiusz Niedziński, and others emphasized inter‑municipal cooperation, the need for legal adjustments, and regional funding to complete the route.
