Soldier Wounds Prison Officer in Shooting at Firing Range

Incident at Civilian Firing Range

An incident occurred at a civilian shooting range in Siedlce involving a soldier of the Polish Armed Forces and an officer of the Prison Service. A shot was fired, resulting in injuries to the Prison Service officer.

The event took place on Wednesday, April 15th, at the civilian shooting range in Siedlce. Military Gendarmerie reported it as an “unfortunate accident,” with the officer being shot in the thigh. The injuries are not life-threatening.

Training Exercises Underway

Available information indicates that Prison Service officers were conducting exercises at the facility. A soldier was also training at the same shooting range. The cause of the shooting is currently unknown.

Military Gendarmerie Investigation

Following confirmation that a soldier was responsible for the shooting, the Military Gendarmerie took over the investigation at the scene. The prosecutor of the military affairs department of the Warsaw-Mokotów District Prosecutor’s Office was informed.

Evidence and surveillance footage were secured, and the Prison Service is also conducting its own investigation.

Criminal Proceedings Initiated

The investigation is being conducted under Article 157 § 1 of the Penal Code, concerning causing bodily harm or health disturbance lasting longer than seven days. Authorities have not yet released details about the circumstances of the shooting or potential individual responsibility.
