Storms Paralyze Pomeranian Rail Traffic

A fallen tree on the tracks between Słupsk and Ustka has forced the suspension of rail services, as damage to the overhead lines disrupts operations throughout the Pomeranian region.

Train Operations Halted

Polish State Railways (PLK) reported on Sunday, June 7, that overhead power lines were damaged after a tree fell on the Charnowo Słupskie-Słupsk line. Due to the single-track nature of the route, all train traffic between Słupsk and Ustka has been completely suspended.

Emergency repair crews have been deployed to the site. In the interim, carrier Polregio has implemented replacement bus services. Passengers are advised to check the Passenger Portal and carrier websites for real-time traffic updates.

Meteorological and Hydrological Warnings

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued first-degree storm alerts for the Pomeranian, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Warmian-Masurian, and several other provinces. Forecasts anticipate heavy rainfall between 20 mm and 30 mm, wind gusts reaching 75 km/h, and localized hail.

Additionally, first-degree hydrological warnings are in effect for several regions. The institute warns of rapid water level rises and potential flooding in urban areas and smaller river basins. Most warnings remain valid until 8:00 PM on Sunday.

Understanding Warning Levels

A first-degree meteorological warning is the lowest on a three-tier scale, indicating conditions that may cause material damage or pose a threat to health and life. Similarly, a first-degree hydrological warning indicates that water levels are approaching or may locally exceed warning thresholds.
