Cyclist Struck by Car
The accident occurred on Sunday, May 3rd, just before 4:00 PM, near the intersection of Marszałkowska Avenue and Szpitalna Street. Investigations revealed that the 13-year-old cyclist, a resident of Mława, was turning right and attempting to cross a pedestrian crossing (with a designated bicycle lane) when she entered the path of an oncoming Kia driven by a 63-year-old Mława resident. Both drivers were sober. The injured cyclist was transported to the hospital in Mława. A detailed investigation into the circumstances and cause of the accident is underway, led by the Mława Police Department.
E-Scooter Collision and Drunk Driving Arrests
Police also responded to an incident involving an electric scooter on April 30th, around 5:20 PM, on Studzieniec Street in Mława. A 17-year-old scooter rider, while attempting to overtake another vehicle at an intersection, collided with a Seat car. The 17-year-old sustained minor injuries and was treated at the hospital before being released. He received a fine for endangering traffic safety.
During the weekend, police also arrested two Colombian citizens for driving under the influence. A 37-year-old was driving a Ford Fiesta with a blood alcohol content exceeding 1.6 per mille and was taken into police custody. A 23-year-old, driving a Seat with a blood alcohol content over 1.5 per mille, did not have a driver’s license and was apprehended thanks to a witness. Both face fines, potential imprisonment of up to three years, and possible deportation.
Increased Police Controls and Appeals for Caution
Mława police conducted increased traffic controls during the holiday period, primarily targeting drivers of cars and motorcycles. Common violations included speeding and improper overtaking, resulting in hefty fines. Over 90 drivers were fined, and 10 cases were referred to court.
Police are urging drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations, particularly emphasizing the safety of vulnerable road users like cyclists and e-scooter riders. They also strongly advise against driving under the influence, highlighting the severe risks associated with impaired driving.
