Threatened to Burn Polish Deputy Prime Minister, Now Says Explosives Were Made “For Fun”

Arrest for 50-Year-Old, Who Denies Guilt

A 50-year-old man, Krzysztof K., was remanded in custody for three months. He faces three charges: threatening the minister, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and manufacturing explosive materials resembling black powder. The suspect denies the charges, claiming he intended no harm and was unaware a permit was required for the firearm. He stated he produced the explosives “for fun.” He faces up to eight years in prison.

Gawkowski: Threats Can Never Be a Form of Political Gameplay

Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski commented on the arrest, thanking law enforcement for stopping a “real threat.” He emphasized that “violence and threats can never be a form of political gameplay or public life,” urging differences to be resolved through dialogue and democratic procedures, not force. He noted “evil can lurk everywhere” and acknowledged the concern the news caused.

Wrocław. 51-Year-Old Threatened Deputy Prime Minister

On January 30, the Wrocław District Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of a 51-year-old Wrocław man who had threatened Gawkowski on social media, writing, “Personally I will burn you alive. Warm regards,” under a ministerial post. Despite the anonymous account, police quickly identified the suspect, who has no criminal record.

Eight Molotov Cocktails and Firearms

The man was arrested the following day. Police found eight Molotov cocktails in his car and a Beretta pistol with ammunition on his person. The Molotov cocktail is a simple incendiary device. The defendant claimed he posted the threat due to “emotions and frustration over the imposition of LGBT ideology on society.” He faces up to eight years in prison.
