Drone Attack on Barakah Facility

The UAE Ministry of Defense reported that while two of the three unmanned aerial vehicles were successfully intercepted, a third drone struck an electrical generator located outside the primary circuit of the Barakah nuclear power plant in the Al Dhafra region. No injuries were reported, and authorities have launched an investigation into the origin of the drones.

Safety and Radiological Status

The Emirati Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation confirmed that the plant’s core safety systems remain fully operational. The IAEA reported that radiation levels at the facility remain within normal limits, adding that the agency is monitoring the situation and remains in constant contact with Emirati authorities.

Context of Regional Tensions

The UAE has faced recurring attacks by missiles and drones during the conflict involving Iran, which saw a ceasefire officially take effect on April 8. Previous targets have included the Al Dhafra airbase, which hosts Emirati, American, and French forces.
