Rail traffic between Krakow and Rzeszow was halted Wednesday morning following a pedestrian-train collision, while a separate fatal accident on the Central Rail Line in Wloszczowa caused significant nationwide delays.
Collision on the Krakow-Rzeszow Line
On Wednesday, May 20, shortly after 7:00 a.m., a train struck a person on the route between Krakow and Rzeszow. Reports indicate that rail traffic has been suspended due to the incident, with replacement bus services currently organized for affected passengers.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding the causes of the accident or the current condition of the victim.
Fatal Incident in Wloszczowa
One day prior, on Tuesday, May 19, a passenger train traveling from Zakopane to Warsaw East struck a man on the Central Rail Line near the Mlynska Street overpass in Wloszczowa, Swietokrzyskie province.
Junior Aspirant Weronika Grot of the Wloszczowa County Police confirmed that investigative procedures began immediately following the event. Officials are currently working to determine the circumstances of the incident and the identity of the deceased.
Impact on National Rail Traffic
The accident in Wloszczowa resulted in a complete blockage of one of the country’s most significant railway corridors. Passengers on the involved train and other services faced major delays while police and railway technical teams worked to restore line operations.
Police are continuing their investigation into how the man entered the tracks in a prohibited area.
