Tram Derails in Praga‑Północ; Service Halted

At about 6:50 a.m., tram line 18 derailed at the intersection of Targowa and 11 Listopada in Praga‑Północ, blocking the junction but leaving passengers unharmed.

Incident Details

The derailment occurred at roughly 06:50 on the crossroads of Targowa and 11 Listopada in Praga‑Północ. Tram line 18 was turning when one car detached from the rest and fell off the tracks, resulting in the whole unit stopping at the intersection. No injuries were reported.

Immediate Response

Tram Warszawskie technical crews rushed to the scene, secured the location, and worked to lift the derailed car back onto the rails. After the vehicle was re‑aligned, the track and power network were inspected for further damage before service resumed.

Operational Disruptions

The intersection remained closed while workers cleared the accident, causing delays for both tram and road traffic. Drivers and public transport passengers in the vicinity faced detours and timetable adjustments.

Until basic traffic patterns are restored, lines 3, 4, 6, 20, 23, 25 and 28 are running on diversionary routes. Examples include line 4 heading via Odrowąża–Starzyńskiego–Most Gdański–Słomiński–Anders–Bankowo, and line 6 via Anders–Stawki–Jana Paweł II–Solidarności–Targowa.

Previous Incidents

A few days earlier, the same intersection was blocked when a left‑behind box on the tracks forced a temporary halt and site‑security operation.

Future Investigation

The cause of the derailment will be examined through internal investigations by the operator. Analysts aim to determine whether a mechanical fault, operational error, or track condition contributed to the accident.
