President Trump was evacuated from a White House Correspondents’ Association gala in Washington D.C. after shots were fired at the Hilton hotel Saturday evening.

Trump Evacuated, Shooting at Gala

Donald Trump was attending the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner when loud sounds resembling gunfire were heard shortly after the meal began at the Hilton hotel. The President, who was on stage, was evacuated by Secret Service agents.

First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and other cabinet members were also evacuated. Neither Trump nor Vance were injured, while attendees sheltered under tables.

Suspect Apprehended, Weaponry Involved

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from California, did not reach the ballroom. He was apprehended by authorities.

The FBI reported the suspect attempted to breach security while armed with a shotgun. According to the Associated Press, one Secret Service agent was struck by a bullet, but was protected by a bulletproof vest and is in good condition.

Police stated the suspect was armed with a shotgun, handgun, and multiple knives, and his motives remain unknown.

Eyewitness Accounts and Trump’s Response

CNN journalist Wolf Blitzer reported seeing the shooter lying on the ground while firing. Other attendees described the scene as frightening and chaotic.

President Trump, via Truth Social, stated, “What an evening in D.C. Secret Service and law enforcement did a fantastic job. The shooter was caught. I suggested: LET THE SHOW GO ON, but it will be totally directed by law enforcement. They will make a decision soon.” He added the evening would be different than planned and would be rescheduled.

President Addresses the Incident

Trump later delivered a statement from the White House, describing the suspect as a “sick person, a lunatic” who was heavily armed. He confirmed the Secret Service agent is in good condition and praised the security response, characterizing the suspect as a “lone wolf.”

Trump also stated the incident would not deter him from “winning the war with Iran,” though he doubted a connection. He expressed his admiration for the attendees’ attire and promised to reschedule the gala.

Evidence Released, Gala Rescheduled

President Trump released photos of the suspect on the floor and video of the security breach on Truth Social. The dinner will be rescheduled within 30 days, confirmed by Weijia Jiang, CBS News correspondent and president of the White House Correspondents’ Association.
