Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk addressed speculation about a government reshuffle following a European Council meeting, emphasizing the importance of Eastern European security.
Tusk Addresses Reconstruction Speculation
Donald Tusk participated in a European Council meeting on March 19-20, discussing topics including EU competitiveness, the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East, the EU budget, security, defense, and the European Emissions Trading System.
When questioned about potential changes to the government, Tusk stated, “I don’t know where this rumor came from. I mean… I know that some media outlets have started writing about my ambitious plans for another government reconstruction, but I don’t have such plans at the moment.”
Reported Plans for Ministerial Changes
RMF FM reported unofficially that Tusk was planning modifications to the Council of Ministers before the summer, potentially involving the ministers of culture, education, and health. The last government reconstruction occurred in July 2025, reducing the number of Council of Ministers members by five.
Poland’s Role in Middle East Conflict
Tusk clarified Poland’s potential involvement in a U.S. operation in Iran, stating he had received reports that the PiS party or the President were considering Polish participation in a Middle Eastern war.
He stressed Poland’s primary responsibility is protecting its eastern border, as well as that of Europe and NATO, and cautioned against seeking new engagements. He emphasized the need for continued global focus on the situation in Ukraine, which directly impacts Poland’s security.
Focus on Ukraine Security
Tusk noted that the conflict in the Middle East had diverted attention from the situation on Ukraine’s border. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring the world remains focused on Ukraine, stating he would not agree to Poland’s involvement in further conflicts.
