Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that Zbigniew Ziobro’s immunity has been revoked, the Sejm agreed to his arrest, and Polish authorities will not send strike teams to Hungary.
Sejm Removes Ziobro’s Immunity
The Polish Parliament stripped Zbigniew Ziobro of immunity and approved his detention. Prosecutors charge him with 26 crimes, including collusion with an organised crime group.
Tusk said the proceedings demonstrate that accountability can finally become a reality in Poland’s democracy.
Tusk Declares No Commandos to Budapest
When asked whether he would dispatch special forces to Budapest, Tusk said, “I will not send commandos there. That is not how this works.”
He emphasised that only prosecutors and law‑enforcement services decide on arrests and that the judiciary will ultimately weigh the justification of the detention.
Hungarian Interference Concerns
Tusk warned that Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s involvement in Polish internal affairs stirs unnecessary tension between Poland and Hungary.
He said the two countries must avoid actions that could upset the regional partnership.
Medical Care for Detainee
Tusk explained that every citizen, including those detained, is entitled to medical care. He insisted Ziobro would receive the same treatment as any other person.
The Prime Minister noted that if the detainee requires treatment abroad, it will be provided.
Kaczyński’s View on Ziobro
Just before the Sejm’s decision, Jarosław Kaczyński stated he had no clear knowledge of Ziobro’s alleged offences.
Tusk added that his opinion of the former Justice Minister is negative and that Kaczyński shares a similarly critical view.
