Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, alongside French President Macron in Gdańsk, stated the conflict in the Middle East strengthens Russia and its leader.
Tusk Highlights Flawed Justification for Conflict
Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron in Gdańsk that the conflict in Iran did not weaken the regime there, rendering the previously assumed justification for war inaccurate.
He added that Poland’s key objective remains the quickest possible de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
Priority: De-escalation and Ceasefire
Tusk emphasized during Monday’s conference with the French President that de-escalating tensions and achieving agreements to end or at least minimize conflicts in the Middle East is an “absolute priority” for Poland.
He added that war in Iran benefits no one and “paradoxically did not weaken the regime,” suggesting its justification was an illusion. He expressed a desire for a ceasefire in Lebanon and an end to “horrific events” in Gaza.
The Polish Prime Minister also drew attention to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, which “affects the entire world,” and expressed hope for “rational decisions.”
War Weakens Ukraine Aid, Benefits Putin
According to Tusk, the war in the Middle East has weakened the resolve of some countries to aid Ukraine against Russian aggression. He stated that, from Poland’s perspective, Putin and Russia have become “evident beneficiaries” of the war.
He pointed to “high fuel prices and unnecessary conflicts within NATO and the Western community.” He also expressed a lack of understanding regarding the decision by “our American friends” to extend sanctions exemptions for Russian oil.
