A Ukrainian drone attack damaged a pipeline transporting sulfuric acid at the JSC Apatit chemical plant in the Vologda region of western Russia, regional authorities reported Sunday. The attack reportedly damaged the Ammonia-3 complex.
Five people were injured in the attack, with one in critical condition.
Acid Leak Contained, Further Attacks Reported
The leak from the damaged pipeline has been contained, and no fire occurred, according to the independent Russian portal Meduza.
Apatit and Broader Context
Apatit is a subsidiary of PhosAgro, one of the world’s largest producers of phosphate fertilizers, according to Reuters. Governor of the Vologda region, Georgy Filimonov, reported “at least three waves of drone attacks” overnight, during which 14 drones were shot down.
Attacks on Yaroslavl Refinery and Russian Drone Interceptions
Reports also surfaced of an attack on a refinery in Yaroslavl, Russia – Slavneft-YANOS, the largest facility in northern Russia.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that a total of 203 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight from Saturday to Sunday.
Ukrainian Casualties in Russian Strikes
At least three people were killed and over 20 injured in Ukraine over the past 24 hours due to Russian attacks. Authorities reported Russian forces struck a commercial ship in the port of Odessa, among other targets.
Regional Breakdown of Ukrainian Casualties
The Zaporizhzhia regional administration reported two fatalities and four injuries in southeastern Ukraine. Russia conducted 20 airstrikes, also utilizing drones and artillery.
One person was killed and four injured in the neighboring Dnipropetrovsk region. The head of the regional authorities, Oleksandr Hanha, stated on Telegram that “the enemy attacked four districts of the region with drones and artillery.” Seven people were injured in the Kherson region in southern Ukraine, and four more in the Kharkiv region in the northeast.
Russian Strikes Target Ukrainian Ports
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba reported that Russian forces again attacked ports in the Odesa region on the Black Sea. Port infrastructure and logistics facilities were damaged.
A ship under the flag of Palau was also attacked, but its crew was unharmed.
Ukrainian Air Defense Claims
The Ukrainian Air Force reported in a morning statement that they destroyed 124 out of 144 Russian drones used in the attacks. They also reported that 19 drones hit targets in 11 locations.
