Czarzasty Stands by His Position

Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty reaffirmed his stance after US Ambassador Tom Rose announced cutting ties. He defended his opposition to Donald Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination, citing his values in support of Polish soldiers on missions. Czarzasty stressed that he respects the US as a key partner but will not change his position on fundamental issues.

In a post on X, Czarzasty emphasized that he “stood in defense of Polish soldiers fighting on missions and did not support the candidacy of President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.” He expressed regret over the ambassador’s declaration but affirmed his unwavering stance.

US Ambassador Cuts Ties Over Trump Comments

On February 5, Ambassador Tom Rose published a statement on X declaring the end of contacts with Sejm Marshal Czarzasty. Rose cited Czarzasty’s “outrageous and unjustified slurs against President Trump” as a serious obstacle to excellent US-Poland relations. The US diplomat stated they will not allow anyone to harm relations or disrespect Trump.

Ambassador Rose highlighted Trump’s contributions to Poland and the Polish nation, asserting that such behavior is unacceptable. This action followed Czarzasty’s public criticism of Trump’s Nobel nomination.

Sejm Marshal: Trump Does Not Deserve Nobel

On February 2, Sejm Marshal Czarzasty announced his opposition to Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination, stating “he does not deserve it.” He criticized initiatives like the Peace Council as illusory, emphasizing the need to strengthen existing institutions such as the EU, NATO, UN, and WHO for security.

Czarzasty argued that Trump’s policies destabilize these organizations through a “policy of force and transactional politics,” which undermines collective security efforts. He maintained that his stance is based on principles of international cooperation.

Czarzasty Shares European Parliament Responses

During a February 2 press conference, Czarzasty provided updates on consultations regarding Trump’s Nobel nomination. He noted that chairs of parliaments from France, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Slovenia, Norway, Spain, Austria, and Ireland did not receive correspondence seeking support.

Countries like Luxembourg, Denmark, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, and Germany received requests but had no plans to support the nomination. Estonia, Croatia, and Sweden had not decided by January 21, while Latvia supported the initiative.
