US cuts ties with Polish Marshal Czarzasty after he criticized Trump, prompting Polish officials to defend their country’s relations with America.
President’s Spokesperson Criticizes Czarzasty
President’s spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz sharply criticized Marshal of the Se Włodzimierz Czarzasty, stating that “not only does he have trouble explaining his eastern social-business contacts, but he is also demolishing Polish-American relations.” Leśkiewicz wrote on X that “In PRL times, for communists, the United States was the greatest enemy. Times have changed, but the mentality of the post-communist Czarzasty has not. Such a Marshal of the Sejm was chosen by the current ruling coalition, a man who does not understand the importance and meaning of alliances.”
International Policy Chief Condemns Diplomatic Approach
Head of the President’s International Policy Office Marcin Przydacz also criticized the second person in state, citing the Polish dictionary definition of diplomacy: “it indicates not only activities for one’s country within foreign policy, but also the ability to behave in difficult situations so as not to offend anyone and achieve the intended goal.” Przydacz stated that “Marszałek Czarzasty cannot fit into any of these definitions. He unnecessarily causes tensions in Polish-American relations. It is puzzling the timing of the Americans breaking off contacts with Mr. Czarzasty and the fact that this happens one day after the public learned about his clear eastern business-social contacts.”
US Ambassador Cuts Ties with Marshal
On Monday, February 2, Włodzimierz Czarzasty stated he would not support the motion to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Donald Trump, claiming he does not deserve it. Czarzasty emphasized that Trump’s creation of new platforms like the Peace Council is “illusory” and Poland should strengthen existing organizations like the EU or NATO. In response, the US Ambassador announced they would “not maintain contacts or communicate with Marshal of the Sejm Czarzasty, whose outrageous and unjustified slurs against President Trump have become a serious obstacle to our excellent relations with Prime Minister Tusk and his government.” The US Ambassador in Poland Tom Rose wrote, “We will not allow anyone to harm Polish-American relations or show disrespect to Donald Trump, who has done so much for Poland and the Polish nation.”
National Security Council Meeting Scheduled
One of the topics for the National Security Council meeting, scheduled for February 11, will be “actions taken by state authorities to clarify all circumstances of the eastern social-business contacts of Marshal of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty.” Czarzasty responded on February 2, saying “Mr. President, first: I will not be intimidated. Second: I am waiting for your statement about your past, as this should be investigated in my opinion. Third: I will not change my behavior toward you and what you do. Fourth: I have such a request – maybe you should deal with the problems of Poles, and not with the feelings of people.”
Czarzasty’s Eastern Contacts Under Scrutiny
The issue of Czarzasty’s “eastern social-business contacts” of the Left party politician appeared in “Gazeta Polska”, TV Republika and other right-wing media, which described the business relations of Czarzasty’s wife with a Russian citizen operating in the art market, who – according to the authors of the publications – was supposed to be linked to financial institutions controlled by the Kremlin.
