Former Polish President Lech Wałęsa is demanding the restoration of a commemorative plaque or a million-zloty refund with interest after his donation plaque was removed from the Solidarity building.
The Dispute Over the Memorial Plaque
Lech Wałęsa announced on social media that he had previously donated thousands of dollars to a specialized healthcare institution headquartered in the “Solidarity” building in Gdańsk.
A commemorative plaque was installed to thank him for the donation, but Wałęsa claims it was removed after a few years, seemingly permanently.
The former Solidarity leader is demanding the plaque be restored or that he be reimbursed the thousands of dollars with interest, an amount he estimates at one million PLN.
Claims Regarding General Kiszczak
In a social media comment, the former president addressed General Czesław Kiszczak and documents alleging Wałęsa’s cooperation with the Security Services.
Wałęsa claims that following the general’s death, he was pressured to agree to a joint statement claiming he and Kiszczak overthrew communism together, suggesting Kiszczak had been a British spy.
He stated that because he refused, Kiszczak’s wife released forged documents, which he describes as fake reports, to discredit him.
