Fire Breaks Out in Central Warsaw Building

On Saturday, April 18th, around 3:00 PM, a fire erupted in the electrical shaft of an apartment building located at 27 Wspólna Street in Warsaw’s Śródmieście district.

Fire and thick, acrid smoke appeared in one stairwell on one of the building’s floors, quickly spreading to two adjacent stairwells.

Emergency Response and Evacuation

Emergency services received reports of heavy smoke in the building. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed a fire in the electrical installation.

The fire originated in one stairwell, but smoke affected a wider area, hindering safe movement for residents and necessitating immediate rescue and firefighting operations.

Approximately fifteen residents evacuated from the affected stairwell, with firefighters evacuating an additional four people.

Injuries and Power Outage

Among those affected were two minors and one adult, all of whom were transported to the hospital.

A total of nine fire crews, including a city operational group, responded to the incident. After the fire was contained, the energy utility cut off power to the affected area.

Wspólna Street was partially closed to traffic during the emergency operations.

Investigation Underway

An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the fire. Current efforts are focused on extinguishing the fire, ventilating the building, evacuating residents, and securing the electrical installation.
