Warsaw police released details of an April 15th traffic stop involving a modified monster truck, contradicting the driver’s earlier claims.
Initial Police Response Delayed
Two days after the incident, Warsaw police revealed details of the April 15th vehicle check, which garnered significant public interest in the capital city. Prior to this, authorities had not provided information to the media, resulting in only the driver’s account being circulated.
Police state the driver’s version of events was inconsistent with the facts.
Standard Check Reveals Discrepancies
The traffic stop occurred around 11:20 AM on Wednesday, April 15th. A traffic patrol stopped a Dodge vehicle structurally modified into a monster truck. Police stated the initial check was standard, prompted by the vehicle’s unusual size.
Invalid Permits and Insurance
The driver presented a Category I permit for oversized vehicles and proof of civil liability insurance. However, a detailed verification revealed serious irregularities. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) did not match the number on the permit, effectively invalidating it. Furthermore, the insurance policy associated with the VIN did not cover the inspected vehicle.
Mechanical Fault and Legal Requirements
Police also reported an oil leak from the vehicle’s drive axle. They emphasized that such vehicles must meet two key requirements for legal road use: a valid permit linked to the specific VIN and valid civil liability insurance. According to the police statement, neither requirement was met in this case.
Fine Issued and Vehicle Towed
Due to the identified violations, the driver received a fine, and the vehicle was removed using a tow truck. Police also announced they would inform the Insurance Guarantee Fund about the lack of valid insurance, potentially leading to further financial penalties for the driver.
Police Refute Previous Claims
In a statement released on April 17th, police addressed earlier publications and social media posts regarding the traffic stop. They stated that the claim “everything was in accordance with the regulations” was factually incorrect. The vehicle was not towed solely due to the oil leak, but because of the invalid permit and lack of proper insurance.
The delay in releasing official information allowed the driver’s version of events to circulate for several hours before the police statement clarified the situation and confirmed the basis for the officers’ actions were specific regulatory violations.
