Patryk M., known as “Wielki Bu”, is fighting a German extradition bid while his lawyer warns the case could be politicized amid his ties to Poland’s president.
Defender Voices Political Concerns
Mech. Gregor P. Jezierski, representing Patryk M. before German courts, said the client’s links to President Karol Nawrocki and the current government‑opposition standoff could render the case a target for political manoeuvres. He warned that, rather than a lawful criminal proceeding, Patryk might become the “ball” in a game between the ruling administration and the opposition.
German Authorities Face Dual Decisions
Jezierski explained that German officials must make two separate rulings: first, to extradite Patryk to Poland; second, to consider his application for political asylum. He said the extradition decision is linked to the asylum review and could be issued within about two months.
Arrest and Detention in Germany
Patryk was detained at Hamburg airport on 12 September following a European Arrest Warrant and refused voluntary extradition. He was then taken to the local detention centre while authorities evaluate his alleged criminal activities.
Alleged Criminal Charges
The Polish prosecution will ask Patryk to answer for participation in an organised crime group that operated from mid‑2017 to 2018 in Poland, the Netherlands, and Spain, purportedly manufacturing and trafficking significant quantities of illicit drugs, including cocaine, amphetamines, hashish, and mephedrone.
He is also charged with burglary by breaking into a vehicle and tampering with its registration marks.
