A 20-year-old driver with two active driving bans struck a 72-year-old woman on a Wodzisław Śląski sidewalk on May 6, subsequently fleeing the scene and attempting to evade prosecution.

The Incident and Escape

On May 6, on Targowa Street in Wodzisław Śląski, a car struck a 72-year-old pedestrian. The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. According to police reports, the Audi driver was reversing when he failed to exercise due caution, hitting the woman on the sidewalk. He stopped briefly before fleeing with a passenger without providing assistance to the victim.

Arrests and Evasion Attempts

Police located the suspects on the same day, first apprehending the 17-year-old passenger, followed by the 20-year-old driver. Authorities also detained a 21-year-old acquaintance accused of helping the driver hide. Investigators determined the driver had planned to leave Poland to avoid criminal liability.

The Wodzisław Śląski District Prosecutor’s Office interrogated the 17-year-old before releasing him. The 21-year-old accomplice faces a charge of aiding a criminal, carrying a potential five-year prison sentence. The 20-year-old driver, who was under two active judicial driving bans, faces up to 16 years in prison for the accident, failure to render aid, and violating court orders. He is currently being held in temporary detention.

Official Warning

The Wodzisław Śląski County Police issued a statement urging responsibility behind the wheel. They emphasized that ignoring traffic laws and judicial driving bans creates a severe risk to road safety and vowed that any flagrant violations will be met with a decisive response from law enforcement.
