Police have detained a 43-year-old Polish man suspected of shooting a Warsaw school building with an air gun on Wednesday morning.
Shooting Incident
A high school building on Marszałkowska Street in Warsaw was apparently shot with an air gun. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning in the area of the 17th Social High School at Marszałkowska Street 34/50 in Śródmieście. School staff reported the shooting to authorities.
The report of the incident was received by authorities just before 10:00 AM. According to accounts, several shots were fired towards the building around 9:30 AM. School staff noticed damage to one of the window panes and immediately notified police.
Police Investigation
A police patrol was dispatched to the scene. Officers inspected the area around the school and secured several steel balls found near the building. Preliminary findings indicated they may have been fired from an air gun.
Police also spoke with witnesses of the incident. Students provided officers with a description of a person who may have fired shots towards the building. Procedural activities were conducted at the scene, and the area was checked for the perpetrator. Officers were also analyzing footage from surveillance cameras in the school area.
No Injuries Reported
As a result of the incident, no one was injured.
Arrest Made
Later that same day, Śródmieście police, in cooperation with Warsaw Metropolitan Police officers, detained a person suspected of involvement in the incident. A 43-year-old Polish citizen was arrested in one of the premises on Gagarina Street in Mokotów.
According to police findings, the arrest was the result of rapid operational actions by Śródmieście criminal investigation officers. During a search of the man’s apartment, police found and secured an air gun type pistol and metal balls that could have been used as ammunition.
Legal Proceedings
Currently, the 43-year-old is at the disposal of the Warsaw I District Police Command. The arrested man will undergo further procedural actions to clarify all circumstances of the incident.
