A new government bill proposes ending the mandatory annual application process for Poland’s 800 Plus child benefit, with the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) set to automate renewals starting in June 2027.
The Shift to Automated Benefits
The proposed legislative changes to state child-rearing support aim to modernize the 800 Plus system by removing the requirement for parents to file annual applications. Instead, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) will utilize its existing data to automatically renew benefits, supporting broader public administration digitalization efforts.
Eligibility and Filing Procedures
Under the new system, parents will still be required to submit an initial application for a child, such as at birth or upon returning to Poland from abroad. Subsequent benefit periods will be renewed automatically unless the family’s circumstances change.
Updating Family Data
The reform introduces a simplified method for managing personal information. If a parent’s situation changes, such as a new address, they will only need to update their data within the system. If no information changes, the benefit will continue without interruption.
Comparison of Current and New Rules
Currently, parents must remember to file applications every year to prevent the loss of benefits. Under the 2027 changes, the process will become continuous, eliminating the risk of accidental disqualification due to forgotten paperwork or administrative delays.
Implementation Timeline
The Council of Ministers is expected to approve the bill by the second quarter of 2026. The new regulations are scheduled to take effect for the 2027/2028 benefit period, with a full implementation date set for June 1, 2027, allowing time for necessary ZUS IT system upgrades.
