PiS MP Abandons TVP Studio After Host’s Rebuttal

Law and Justice MP Anna Krupka walked out of a TVP program on May 15 following a tense exchange regarding the police search of Telewizja Republika head Tomasz Sakiewicz’s apartment.

The Walkout

During a broadcast on Friday, May 15, PiS MP Anna Krupka was questioned by host Maciej Zakrocki about the appointment of judges to the National Council of the Judiciary. Instead of addressing the topic, Krupka pivoted to the recent police intervention at the home of Tomasz Sakiewicz, the head of Telewizja Republika.

Krupka condemned the search, claiming officers entered without a warrant or identification. She drew a provocative comparison, asking the audience: “Is this early Putin or late Yanukovych?”

TVP Host’s Response

Following the broadcast of a police press conference regarding the intervention, it became clear that Krupka had vacated the studio. Zakrocki expressed his regret over her departure, noting that she had left despite initially voicing strong indignation over the situation.

Zakrocki remarked that the suggestion of Zbigniew Ziobro becoming a commentator for the channel from the United States challenged the definition of an “independent” station. He added that he had expected Krupka to remain in the studio and offer an apology for her initial remarks.

The Police Intervention

The Warsaw Metropolitan Police stated that the intervention at Sakiewicz’s apartment was prompted by a report of an immediate life-threatening situation. The police released a record of a message sent to the Child Rights Ombudsman’s trust chat, in which a child claimed to be in the process of committing suicide.

Mental Health Resources

If you or someone you know is in crisis, free, 24-hour helplines are available. In life-threatening emergencies, call 112 or visit the emergency department of a local psychiatric hospital.
