Investigation is underway following a Monday afternoon accident on Marymonckiej Street in Warsaw, where a delivery truck driver collided with pedestrians at a crosswalk.

“After 1:00 p.m. at 161 Marymonckiej Street in Warsaw, a serious accident occurred. A driver of a Toyota Proace City, for unknown reasons, crashed into a crosswalk, hitting four pedestrians. All injured were transported to the hospital,” reported the City Command of the State Fire Service in Warsaw. At the scene, apart from the ambulance, the fire department, police, and representatives of the Capital Safety Center and the Municipal Transport Board also intervened.

Portal Miejskireporter.pl reports that driver ran into the crosswalk despite a red signal. “The impact was strong enough that the pedestrians were thrown several or a few dozen meters – some fell onto the road, others onto the sidewalk,” we read. Some pedestrians managed to jump aside. The victims are three women and a man. According to the press team of the Capital Police Command, the most seriously injured was a 72‑year‑old woman. The others are in stable condition. The 47‑year‑old driver of the delivery truck was sober. Blood will be taken from the man to test for psychotropic substances and drugs. At present it is unclear why he entered the crosswalk a green signal.
