Teenager Gave Birth and Locked Baby in Wardrobe

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, August 12, on Śląska Street in Gorzów. A 17‑year‑old was due to give birth and then hide the newborn in a wardrobe. She later arrived at the hospital with injuries and admitted that she had left the baby. Police, the ambulance service and the fire brigade were dispatched; the fire brigade forcefully opened the apartment door.

Baby Will Undergo Surgery

The newborn was immediately transported to the hospital, where it was determined that medical care was necessary. The child will undergo surgery. At this time we cannot say more about the baby’s condition.

Do Not Leave a Child

Women who give birth but cannot raise a child are advised to leave it at the hospital, relinquishing parental rights, or anonymously hand it over to a nearby shelter. This ensures the child receives care and later new families can provide appropriate conditions. Adolescents facing problems may also use the Youth Helpline 116‑111, which is 24/7, anonymous and free. Specialists there can advise on how to act in difficult situations. Parents also have a special duty of care; neglect can lead to criminal liability such as endangering life or causing serious injury (article 160 of the Criminal Code).
