Police entered an apartment in Gorzów Tuesday, finding a newborn in a wardrobe; the child was hospitalized and has since undergone surgery, now stable.
Newborn Found in Wardrobe
On Tuesday (12 August) in the evening a 17‑year‑old reported to the hospital with a vaginal hemorrhage and genital injuries. She confessed to doctors that she had given birth at home and had hidden the baby in a wardrobe. Police were notified. Later that day, around 8 p.m., officers forcibly entered a flat on Śląska Street in Gorzów Wielkopolski and recovered the newborn. The child was alive but needed hospital transport.
Child Underwent Surgery
Doctors decided the boy needed surgery, which was performed during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. According to gorzowianin.com, the specialists emphasize that birthing outside a hospital is always dangerous; the child is currently in good health and not in danger of death. The operation lasted just under an hour and the rescue involved the entire team: surgeons, anesthesiologists, neonatologists and nurses – said Dr. Tomasz Grzechnik, pediatric surgery department head at the Gorzów hospital. The mother, 17, remains in the same facility.
Police Investigating
“Inside the flat on Śląska Street we found the newborn, who was handed to the ambulance crew. We are still conducting investigations. We are interrogating further witnesses, collecting evidence, analyzing various angles. It is too early to speculate about any charges. Only when we have a complete evidentiary record will we be able to speak about the legal situation,” said Grzegorz Jaroszewicz of the Gorzów command during a talk with Gorzowianin. Police also stress that investigators are working in many directions. Whether charges will be filed remains unknown.
