Accident in Bielany, Warsaw
The crash occurred on Monday after 1:00 pm at the intersection of Marymonckiej Street, 161 in Warsaw. A Toyota Proace City driver, for unknown reasons, slammed into a pedestrian crossing, injuring four people. The police command of the State Fire Service in Warsaw reported that the pedestrians had the green light. The victims were three women and one man. The most severely injured was a 72‑year‑old woman who died the same day in hospital. Prosecutors announced on Wednesday the death of a second victim. A third person sustained fractures of both upper and lower limbs and the spine, while a fourth left the hospital after receiving treatment for head injuries.

The 47‑year‑old was arraigned on Wednesday on charges of causing a fatal accident. He admitted involvement in the incident but could not fully explain why it occurred. He stated that he attempted to brake just before the crossing, then helped the injured and did not leave the scene. He had no previous convictions, not even for traffic violations. A professional driver, he was sober and not under the influence of drugs or psychoactive substances at the time. Prosecutors applied preventative measures, including a 40,000‑zł surety, monitoring, and a travel ban. Consequently, they did not file a request for his arrest. Mariusz faces up to eight years in prison.
