Wojciech Hann, former president of Bank Ochrony Środowiska and University of Wrocław council head, died in a skiing accident in Georgia at age 61.
Early Life and Political Opposition
Wojciech Hann has died. He was active in the democratic opposition during the Polish People’s Republic period. He belonged to the youth section of the Catholic Intelligentsia Club in Wrocław and was a co-founder of the underground publishing house Constans and a member of the editorial board of the underground quarterly “Konkret”. He graduated in physics from the University of Wrocław.
Banking Career
After 1989, Hann worked as a consultant at Ernst & Young and held high positions at CA IB Financial Advisers. He also worked for Deloitte and KPMG. He served as the president of the Bank Ochrony Środowiska and was a member of the board of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego. According to his KPMG biography, he advised on over 100 transactions in energy, renewable energy, green transformation financing, banking, machinery, construction, food, IT, petrochemical and other sectors for clients across Poland, Europe, Asia, and the USA.
From 2021, Hann chaired the University Council of the University of Wrocław.
Personal Legacy
“Wojtek always chose values – honesty, rationality, fidelity,” wrote former University of Wrocław rector Prof. Przemysław Wiszewski, who worked closely with Hann. He described Hann as “a man in love with the University, dedicated to the idea of Poland as a civil society.” According to “Gazeta Wyborcza,” Wojciech Hann died in a skiing accident in Georgia. He was 61 years old. The date of the funeral has not yet been announced.
