Unofficial sources indicate Polish police have new information regarding the location of Iwona Wieczorek’s body in a cold case from 2010.
New Information in the Case
According to unofficial information from “Fakt,” officers from the capital’s Department for Combating Criminal Terrorism and Homicide have information about the location of Iwona Wieczorek’s body. “According to our information, these are quite precise clues” – the newspaper reports.
“Fakt” emphasizes that the new information is related to recent police actions on Polna Street in Sopot.
Police Actions in Sopot
As previously reported by trojmiasto.pl portal, on Wednesday, January 14, officers in white protective suits appeared, which are intended to prevent the erasing of traces. A blue police tent and cameras recording the course of the work were also set up.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecutor’s Office Przemysław Nowak stated that police officers are “conducting evidentiary actions in Sopot in an investigation into an unsolved murder from several years ago.” The work is being supervised by the prosecutor’s office.
Nowak added that “these actions are to check whether there are grounds for reopening the dismissed proceedings.” According to a “Fakt” reporter, the place where police actions were conducted on January 14 is not where the 19-year-old’s body is supposed to be found.
“There, police officers were only supposed to secure the traces. Iwona’s body is supposed to be in a different place” – the newspaper reports.
Disappearance of Iwona Wieczorek
Iwona Wieczorek disappeared in the night from July 16 to 17, 2010. The 19-year-old was at a party in Sopot, where she reportedly had an argument with friends. She decided to walk home to Gdańsk.
