A 7-year-old girl abused a cat in Ostrów Wielkopolski while her mother recorded and laughed, resulting in a court conviction.
Incident Captured on Video
The case gained attention in March of last year when a video surfaced online showing a 7-year-old girl and a cat. The child threw the animal into a ball pit, then held the cat by its two paws and spun around her own axis. The recording was made by the child’s mother, whose laughter is audible throughout the video. Activists from the Kaliskie Stowarzyszenie Pomocy Dla Zwierząt Help Animals notified police in Ostrów Wielkopolski and the District Veterinary Inspectorate. The cat was removed from the family.
Cat Named Kacper Taken to Shelter
The cat was given the name Kacper and placed in an animal shelter. “The kitten is still frightened. We found traces of some substance on his fur, possibly glue, and it’s visible that his fur had been cut with scissors. In our assessment, he could weigh a bit more,” volunteers reported in March.
Mother Convicted of Animal Abuse
The case was heard at the District Court in Ostrów Wielkopolski. On Thursday, the girl’s mother – 47-year-old Grażyna R. – was provisionally found guilty of animal abuse by permitting her daughter’s actions toward the animal. The sentence is six months imprisonment suspended for three years, an obligation to report to a probation officer, a six-year ban on owning animals, and a 4,000 zł compensation to the association. “Kacper now lives in a calm, loving home. He is surrounded with care, warmth, and patience. Slowly, step by step, he is regaining trust in humans,” Help Animals reported.
