A Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner bound for Los Angeles suffered a sudden nose gear collapse while parked at Frankfurt Airport on Thursday, June 4, resulting in several injuries among ground staff.
Incident Details
The accident occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. at Frankfurt Airport as the Boeing 787-9 was preparing for a flight to Los Angeles. For reasons currently unknown, the aircraft’s front landing gear collapsed while the plane was stationary at the parking stand.
The planned flight to California was canceled at the last minute. Although the jet bridge had already been attached to the aircraft, passengers had not yet boarded the plane.
Injuries and Response
At the time of the incident, only flight crew and ground personnel were on board. Lufthansa confirmed to RTL that several employees were injured and are receiving medical attention. A crisis team has been formed to address the situation.
Damage Assessment and Investigation
Footage from the scene shows the aircraft resting with its front section on the tarmac. Technicians are currently on-site, and the airline is working with the relevant authorities to determine the exact circumstances of the failure.
Newest Addition to the Fleet
The aircraft involved is one of the most modern long-haul jets in the Lufthansa fleet. It was delivered to the carrier only at the beginning of January this year, making it one of the newest machines currently operated by the airline.
