Taxi Driver in Warsaw Faces Charges in Roundabout Compensation Fraud

Warsaw’s Regional Prosecutor’s Office investigates a Ford Focus taxi driver suspected of staging collisions to claim insurance compensation.

Prosecutor Takes Over Investigation

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw has taken over from the Warsaw-Ochota District Prosecutor’s Office regarding compensation fraud through misleading about circumstances and insurance contract breaches under Article 286 § 1 of the Penal Code. A Ford Focus taxi driver from Warsaw is under investigation for allegedly participating in dozens of unusual road events, mainly near Rondo “Radosława”.

65 Collisions in Four Years

Suspects registered vehicles in their own names to provoke accidents. From early 2020 to present, they reportedly participated in approximately 65 road incidents across Poland. The prosecution states their modus operandi involved targeting critical intersections like roundabouts where drivers are less cautious, intentionally causing collisions.

Insurance Company Revelations

Insurance companies found that reported damages often concerned the same vehicle parts, which became increasingly damaged with each incident. Compensation was paid from the collision perpetrators’ insurance policies.

Minister of Justice Involvement

The prosecution notes the investigation is ongoing, aiming to determine the full number of events and all involved parties. Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek has expressed interest and appealed to prosecutors for thorough analysis of such cases, including the former Ford Focus taxi driver.
