A new poll reveals that 53.5% of Poles believe the US ambassador’s decision to cut ties with Czarzasty weakens America’s credibility as an ally.
Survey Results on US Credibility
IBRiS conducted a survey for “Rzeczpospolita,” asking Poles how the decision of the American ambassador to break relations with Czarzasty might affect the credibility of the USA as Poland’s ally. 53.5% of respondents stated that this decision weakens the credibility of the United States, 14.6% answered that it strengthens it. 31.9% of respondents had no opinion.
Czarzasty’s Statement About Trump and Poland’s Stance
Tom Rose said that Czarzasty insulted Trump. The Marshal of the Sejm stated that Donald Trump does not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. Survey participants were asked whether they believed Czarzasty had insulted the US president with this statement. 50.3% of respondents assessed that this statement was not insulting, 38.1% had the opposite opinion.
Respondents also expressed their views on Poland’s stance towards the US. 61.5% of respondents agreed that Poland should be more assertive towards the United States, according to 21.4% there is no such need. The survey was conducted on February 11-12 by telephone, standardized CATI interviews on a sample of one thousand people.
Background on Czarzasty’s Dispute with US Ambassador
At the beginning of February, Czarzasty announced that he would not support the application for Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He stated: “We need to strengthen the European Union, NATO, UN, WHO and ourselves. This is where our security lies. President Trump destabilizes these organizations, representing a policy of force and using force conducts a transactional policy. This is a violation of policy principles, values, often international law.”
In response to this statement, the US ambassador announced the breaking of relations with Czarzasty.
