Snake Sighting Initiates Investigation

Kraków police were alerted to a snake in a building in one of the city’s districts on Tuesday, April 14th. A patrol confirmed the presence of a snake on a stairwell.

Initial investigations suggested the snake belonged to a resident of the building, prompting the involvement of city guards and firefighters who successfully captured the reptile and transferred it to an animal shelter.

Large-Scale Python Discovery

Police suspected the captured python might not be alone and called in economic crime officers and a veterinary expert. A search of the premises revealed a total of 148 pythons, which were secured by authorities.

Three men responsible for the animals’ care were questioned and identified.

Animal Welfare Concerns and Legal Review

A veterinary expert and police officers inspected the welfare and sanitary conditions of the snakes. The inspection revealed irregularities and evidence of violations of animal welfare regulations.

The men responsible for the pythons were detained and taken to a police station for questioning, but were later released. The snakes were placed under the care of appropriate institutions.

Ongoing Investigation

Police are investigating potential violations of nature protection laws and verifying whether all the animals possess the legally required certifications. The Kraków-Prądnik Biały District Prosecutor’s Office is overseeing the investigation.
