Polish MP Łukasz Litewka Dies in Bicycle Accident

Łukasz Litewka, a member of the Polish Parliament, died on Thursday, April 23rd, after being struck by a car while cycling in Dąbrowa Górnicza.

Accident Details

The tragic incident occurred around 1:20 PM on Kazimierzowska Street in Dąbrowa Górnicza. A car struck Łukasz Litewka while he was riding his bicycle.

Initial findings suggest a head-on collision, according to the prosecutor’s statement to the media. The other driver, a 57-year-old man, has been detained for questioning.

Driver’s Condition and Investigation

A breathalyzer test showed the driver was not under the influence of alcohol. Further, more precise tests are being conducted, according to Bartosz Kilian.

“Wyborcza” reports that the driver likely fell asleep, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with the cyclist.

Police Appeal for Calm

Police are urging the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information regarding the accident.

In a statement, Śląsk Police warned of numerous comments and speculations circulating on social media. They emphasized that there is currently no evidence to suggest the incident was intentional.

Authorities requested that anyone with dashcam footage from the area contact the police.

The New Left party expressed deep sorrow over the death of Łukasz Litewka, describing him as a friend and a dedicated politician committed to fighting for the rights of the vulnerable.

They stated that Poland has lost a man with a big heart and that his absence will leave an irreplaceable void. The party pledged to continue his work and expressed condolences to his family and loved ones.
